Perry is daughter to actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. On the ABC sitcom Roseanne (in flashback) her mother played Jackie Harris in two of Perry's first TV roles. Her parents did not allow her to begin acting by her parents until she reached old age, due to the pressure it would bring. Perry admits that she was not happy in school however, she began to perform as an opportunity to make new individuals while at Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry was able to begin her acting career at New York after graduation, getting small roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But homesickness made Perry come back to California and pursue a career as a theater actress. Perry's mother and I appeared on Broadway together as part of The Other Place, in 2013. She performed with her father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in 2015 at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. In 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family. In 2017 she had an appearance on her own ABC drama about politics Scandal with her father. She was also cast in the CBS comedy The Big Bang Theory spin-off Young Sheldon as a version younger Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mom. Despite the fact that she has a connection with her family to her character, she got the part through an audition.
